Effie Trinket: Now the time
has come for us to select one courageous young man and woman for the honor of
representing District 12 in the 74th annual Hunger Games. As usual, ladies
first.
Effie Trinket: Primrose
Everdeen. Where are you dear? Well, come on up.
Effie Trinket: Well, come on
up!
[Prim walks slowly towards the
stage, suddenly Katniss steps out and calls out to Prim]
Katniss Everdeen: Prim! Prim!
[the guards stop Katniss from
approaching Prim]
Katniss Everdeen: No! I
volunteer! I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!
Effie Trinket: Well, I
believe we have our first volunteer.
This was what the audience was waiting for, what I was
waiting for, the plot twist to get Katniss Everdeen in the middle of the hunger
games. To watch her little sister, walk up
on that platform was too much for Katniss and she volunteered.
It made me wonder if I would be willing to do that – I
certainly think I would but have I ever done so in little ways, little ways at
home, or at work? Yep… the funny thing
is my boss did not even think what she said would actually get done.
“Our office fridge really needs to be defrosted…” said my
boss during our staff lunch.
Two days later (I was off the next day when I heard her say that)
it was setting in the back defrosting in the sunny April afternoon. By that evening it was back in the office,
clean, and ready to be used again.
To volunteer is key to being a good employee and if you can
do it when the boss isn’t even thinking about it – BOOM! Plot twist and your
boss will never forget it.
When you overhear your boss (or for you bosses your employees) say something that stands out to you remember in your head what Katniss did: “I volunteer! I volunteer!” and watch everyone be shocked and pleased.
